Establishing an environmental tribunal would pose "a lot of logistical difficulties", an official from the Department of Constitutional Affairs told an inquiry into environmental crime by the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee in February. The Magistrates' Association dismissed the idea of specialist environmental magistrates and - in contrast to local government bodies and the Environment Agency - said the current level of fines was satisfactory.
