DEFRA has revised its proposals for the implementation of the 1978 Directive on freshwater fish. The Government received a warning of impending prosecution from the European Commission in late 2002 over its inconsistent implementation of the Directive (ENDS Report 337, pp 10-11 ). This resulted in proposals to revise implementation of the Directive and a consultation document which was released in June 2003.
