New twist on combustion plant as Commission plugs opt-out 'loophole'

Once again, the European Commission has challenged the UK's interpretation of the EU large combustion plants Directive - in a move which may greatly restrict the scope for coal-fired power stations to "opt out" of controls on acid gas emissions. Meanwhile, the Environment Agency is working on a strategy to limit emissions from coal-fired power stations under the integrated pollution control (IPC) regime.
