In an embarrassing U-turn, the European Commission has said that deca-brominated diphenyl ether is to be included in the forthcoming ban on the use of polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants in electrical appliances. Continuing concerns about the chemical's neurological effects are also delaying completion of an EU risk assessment.
