Waste treatment company Lanstar has been fined £30,000 with costs of £47,560 after an ageing tank leaked waste including creosote at its Cadishead site. Lanstar contested the case, claiming that the creosote was a saleable product and therefore not "waste" - despite it having been mixed with other wastes and abandoned for several years.
