The Government must support the development of off-site soil treatment centres to prevent "a major slowdown of brownfield regeneration in the UK", according to a report by Entec, the environmental consultancy.1 The planning regime and the cumbersome waste management licensing system are identified as major obstacles to progress - with delays to the development of a new remediation permitting regime now adding to the woes.
