DEFRA digs in heels over 'municipal' waste definition

There is no case for changing the UK's definition of "municipal waste", according to a statement issued by the Environment Department (DEFRA) in October.1 The statement comes in response to concerns that local authorities might be tempted to scale back on the collection of commercial wastes to ease compliance with their targets to reduce landfilling of biodegradable municipal waste (BMW).
