Commission outlines ideas for marine framework Directive

A second consultation on an EU "thematic strategy" on the marine environment was launched by the European Commission in March. The Commission has in mind a framework Directive which would have at its core a duty to achieve "good environmental status" in all European marine waters within 15-20 years.
