Tesco has become the largest retailer to enter the organic cotton market, launching a mother and baby clothing range. A surge in similar initiatives is expected over coming months as the Fairtrade Foundation and Oxfam begin certifying organic and ethically produced cotton. However, WWF says promoting organic cotton is "not effective" in achieving long-term environmental goals, and is focusing its efforts on reducing the impacts of conventional cotton production.
