The Environment Department (DEFRA) should provide a detailed response to claims that 700,000 tonnes per year of hazardous waste is finding its way to the wrong landfills, according to a report by the House of Commons Environment Committee.1 The Committee is "less optimistic" than DEFRA that the UK can meet the EU targets to divert biodegradable municipal waste from landfill.
