Two sets of regulations, one setting out the regime for the control and tracking of the movement of hazardous waste, the other implementing the classifications of hazardous waste set out in the European Waste Catalogue, were issued by the Environment Department (DEFRA) in early April.1 From 16 July the new system will replace that for the consignment of "special waste" and will extend the new classification system to waste management licensing.
