Commission abandons plans for biowaste Directive

The European Commission has executed a U-turn on its plans for a Directive on composting and biodegradable wastes, sparking strong protests from the waste industry and environmental organisations. The Commission now proposes limited action centred around compost product standards in an annex of a revised waste framework Directive.
