New inventory data for England and Wales show that sewage works vary widely in their efficiency in removing organic matter and that Southern Water has some of the worst-performing sites. Also, ConocoPhillips is by far the largest emitter of benzene to air. But repeated problems with the Environment Agency's website mean that the public cannot extract this information online - and the Scottish authorities do not intend to allow such access.
