Consortia of experts from industry and research institutes have published documents forming the first steps towards technical guidance under the EU's proposed REACH regime on regulating and authorising chemicals. Meanwhile, nine leading toxicologists have written to the European Commission warning of "inevitable adverse consequences for human health and environmental protection" if companies are allowed to substitute in vitro tests for animal tests.
