'Unprecedented' use of waste law helps landowner recover damages

A little-known section of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 has helped SecondSite Property secure £624,000 in damages from a firm that illegally dumped waste on its land. Although the case did not reach court, the use of the Act is "unprecedented" and could prompt similar cases, according to the lawyers involved.
