Balfour Beatty fined for polluting river

Balfour Beatty Civil was fined after it admitted polluting a river near Paisley with silt-laden water on 23 August. Paisley sheriff court heard that the company was building an extension to the M77 between Maidenhill and Fenwick, near Kilmarnock. A routine inspection by Scottish Environment Protection Agency staff in April last year found that the Earn Water was heavily discoloured.
