Scientists address fears over ‘synthetic biology’

Scientists working in the emerging field of synthetic biology have published a set of principles to address concerns over their work’s safety.1 But a coalition of NGOs, which issued an open letter to the scientists in the run-up to their annual meeting, is not satisfied with their self-regulatory approach.2
