Water firms pay penalty for sewage pollution

United Utilities has been fined £10,000 with £2,161 in costs after a corroded sewer failed three times in seven months, leaking sewage into a tributary of the Mersey. Yorkshire Water and Northumbrian Water have also been prosecuted for letting sewage pollute streams.
