A third of aircraft passengers would contribute to offsetting the CO2emissions of their flights, a study by the Centre for Air Transport and the Environment at Manchester Metropolitan University has found. It recommends that if offsetting is an action of last resort and schemes are made more transparent, they could provide a "pragmatic way" to compensate for aviation’s climate impacts.1
