Progress on North Sea rules for chemicals, nutrients, oil platforms

 

A meeting of the Oslo and Paris Commissions (OSPAR) in April agreed revised strategies on hazardous substances and eutrophication. An expansion and refocussing of the Commission's work in these areas is likely to result at a Ministerial meeting in September - notably with the inclusion of proposals on endocrine disrupting compounds. Meanwhile, agreement has still to be reached in key areas over the marine disposal of offshore installations.
