The UK's carbon dioxide emissions in 2002 fell to the lowest level since 1990, reversing the increases seen in the two preceding years. However, much of the fall was due to warmer weather, the economic downturn and a decline in the use of coal for power generation. Output from renewables again showed only a tiny increase.
