DEFRA unlikely to get sole responsibility for waste

Lead responsibility for waste policy seems unlikely to be restricted to the Environment Department but procedures for closer working across Departments may be adopted, an inquiry into waste policy by the House of Lords European Union Committee has heard. The waste industry has warned the inquiry that further "dramas" involving hazardous waste and abandoned vehicles could follow the fridge fiasco.
