Commission sets out plans to tackle fluorinated gases

Legislative plans to shave about a quarter off the EU's projected emissions of fluorinated greenhouse gases in 2010 have been outlined by the European Commission. It wants a ban on several applications of the gases - but the centrepiece of its proposals will be a system of transferable quotas to assist in a phase-out of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) from vehicle air conditioning from 2008.
