Waste industry wins concessions on new licensing regime

The waste management industry looks set to win important concessions from the Department of the Environment (DoE) following a ministerial decision to delay by two months the implementation of the new waste management licensing system under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The DoE is now expected to take a less prescriptive approach to the surrender of waste licences and requirements for sites to be managed by technically competent persons. The scope of the licensing system is also likely to be amended.
