Voluntary agreement on NPs overtaken by EU phase-out

The Government is consulting on a voluntary agreement to phase out the main uses of nonylphenol (NP) and nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs) by the end of 2004.1 The agreement has been largely overtaken by the unexpectedly rapid adoption of an EU phase-out - but should offer additional benefits in preventing the use of alternative formulations based on the equally damaging octylphenol (OP).
