DEFRA study plays down soils carbon sequestration

Improving the rate at which carbon is stored in agricultural soils offers only limited potential to reduce the UK's net carbon dioxide emissions, according to a report for the Environment Department.1 However, it sees significant scope to convert farmland to woodlands and energy crop plantations, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by changes to farm management.
