Agency warns of steep rise in abstraction charges

The Environment Agency kicked off a review of its abstraction licensing activities and charges in January. In a consultation paper, it warned of higher charges to pay for compensation where abstractions are curbed in order to reduce damage to wildlife sites, and incentive charges to encourage a shift to time-limited abstraction licences.1
