Reprieve for flame retardant used in electrical appliances

In a surprising move, the European Commission has said that the flame retardant deca-brominated diphenyl ether is not currently included in the ban from 2006 on the use of polybrominated flame retardants in electrical appliances. The decision will please television and computer manufacturers in the US and some Asian countries but will make little difference to producers in Europe and Japan, most of which no longer use it.
