DoE forced to act on funding crisis for waste certification body

The final text of the regulations and guidance on "technically competent" waste managers which will form part of the ill-starred waste management licensing system to be introduced under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 was published by the Department of the Environment (DoE) on 18 May. The move appears to have been prompted by threats from waste management businesses disaffected by the delay in implementing the new regime that they will stop funding the organisation which will be responsible for issuing certificates of competence to waste managers.
