Organic chemicals industry wins time for IPC revisions

The Government has given the organic chemicals industry an extra three months in which to submit applications for authorisations under integrated pollution control (IPC). The move is intended to allow "limited changes" to be made to the regulations governing the definition of chemical processes, which were proving too rigid to cope with the complexity of much of the industry. But HMIP's simultaneous abandonment of its "arms' length" policy will raise concern over the range of concessions being granted to the industry's campaign for deregulation.
