DEFRA opts for 'burden-sharing' of abatement costs at crematoria

The Environment Department has back-tracked on proposals to require all crematoria to fit mercury abatement equipment. Instead, it is to allow operators to sign up to a voluntary agreement aimed at halving emissions of mercury while sharing the costs of upgrading.
