Government challenged to legislate for marine nature conservation

A major package of reforms has been recommended by an official review of marine nature conservation after five years of deliberation.1 Key themes are a shift away from protecting individual species and habitats to safeguarding the functioning of marine ecosystems, and from sectoral regulation to cross-sectoral marine spatial planning - but the Government seems in no rush to introduce the necessary legislation.
