DEFRA issues waste research strategy

A three-year waste research strategy with an annual budget of around £5 million was issued by the Environment Department (DEFRA) in September, with the first call for proposals likely in November.1 Priorities include projects that examine waste flows, composition and trends, as well as public attitudes to waste facilities and recycling, impact assessments of new technologies, and research into the true costs of waste management.
