C&D waste spread on unlicensed sites drops by a third - or does it?

The amount of construction, demolition and excavation waste reused on unlicensed sites dropped by 36% between 2001 and 2003, according to a Government survey, and the tonnage sent to landfill increased by a quarter.1 However, the figures come with a wide margin of uncertainty, which underlines how little is yet known about this aspect of the waste sector.
