DG Environment questions calls for risk assessment under REACH

The European Chemical Industry Federation (CEFIC) and at least two Member States have called for changes to the EU's proposed REACH legislation on chemicals management in order to achieve a risk-based prioritisation of existing chemicals alongside the volume-based thresholds proposed by the European Commission. But a senior official from the Commission's Environment Directorate has called for reassurances that adequate data exist to enable risk assessment.
