Pesticides Voluntary Initiative under threat

The farming and agrochemicals industries' Voluntary Initiative to reduce pesticide pollution looks increasingly under threat despite expressions of continued support in the Chancellor's pre-Budget report. Friends of the Earth has called for the initiative to be replaced with a range of measures including a pesticides tax, while Thames Water wants a ban on the herbicide isoproturon because of high levels in rivers used to supply drinking water.
