Ministers agree batteries Directive

A partial ban on nickel/cadmium rechargeable batteries, plus revised battery collection and recycling targets, were part of a political agreement on the EU batteries Directive reached at the Environment Council on 20 December. Environment Ministers also agreed measures concerning the Aarhus Convention on access to environmental justice - while the UK’s role in removing numerical targets for long-term cuts in greenhouse gases has prompted controversy.
