DoE backs fluorocarbon-free refrigeration technology

The Department of the Environment (DoE) has given its unequivocal backing to German technology that uses propane/butane coolants in domestic refrigerators instead of the fluorocarbons which have been developed as substitutes for the CFCs. The DoE has acquired 20 fridges from Liebherr in a move which is something of a snub for UK producers, who say they are still assessing the technology.
