Abandoned mines blow a hole in UK methane performance

The UK’s performance in reducing greenhouse gas emissions would look less rosy if methane emissions from abandoned mines were included in the Kyoto Protocol calculations, a new study has pointed out.1 The report also calls on energy regulator Ofgem to clamp down on leakage from the gas distribution network.
