Europe remains behind USA in biopolymers

The large-scale production of plant-based plastics, or "biopolymers", is continuing in the USA but has yet to take off on this side of the Atlantic, delegates to a Royal Society of Chemistry conference heard in March. Such materials must show they can compete in terms of performance and cannot rely on "eco-friendly" claims to win market share, delegates were told.
