London Mayor rejects desalination scheme on energy grounds

Thames Water has been forced to reconsider its water resources plans after its proposed desalination plant was rejected by Mayor of London Ken Livingstone. The refusal - on grounds of energy use and sustainability - leaves the company with a hole in its water budget which will be hard to mend.
