Agency clamps down on Sheerness steelworks

The Thamesteel works in Kent, which controversially reopened in 2003, is to benefit from a £3 million environmental improvement programme under the integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC) regime, leading to a significant tightening of emission limits and monitoring requirements. The new permit, issued in April, concluded several years of regulatory negotiations after the company and its predecessor initially submitted insufficient information to the Environment Agency.
