DoE still hoping to run with Environment Agency
The Department of the Environment has still not lost hope that space will be found in a Bill in the next parliamentary session to provide for preparations for the new Environment Agency to continue. Some issues, such as a duty on the Agency to calculate the costs of new initiatives and arrangements for local accountability, already seem to be settled. But the delay in establishing the Agency has forced the DoE to ensure that waste regulation teams in the shire counties are not disbanded during the forthcoming reorganisation of local government.
