UK mounts major challenge against EC landfill Directive

A two-pronged attack on the proposed EC landfill Directive is to be mounted by the UK at the EC Environment Council on 5 October. The UK wants the proposal dropped on the grounds that it conflicts with the doctrine of subsidiarity - but if other Member States disagree it will press for major changes, including the deletion of a proposed ban on co-disposal.
