Water firms in the dock for more pollution offences

United Utilities was fined £19,000 in November for pollution incidents which resulted in two north-west streams running with sewage. Southern Water has been prosecuted three times in recent months, chalking up fines of £18,000, while Yorkshire, Northumbrian and Scottish Water have also been in court.
