Directive sets penalties for environmental crime

The European Commission has issued a proposal for a Directive requiring member states to criminalise breaches of environmental law.1 For the most serious cases, it stipulates fines of up to €1.5 million for companies and up to 10 years in jail for individuals, including directors.
