Shell’s flower power advertisement likely to mislead, says ASA

A press advertisement by oil giant Shell has been judged likely to mislead readers by the Advertising Standards Authority following a complaint by Friends of the Earth. In the advertisement, Shell states: "We use our waste CO2 to grow flowers and our waste sulphur to make super strong concrete." It was illustrated with an oil refinery emitting flowers rather than smoke.
