CO2 challenge to HFCs for car air conditioning

Norwegian scientists have developed an air conditioning system for cars which runs on carbon dioxide instead of ozone-depleting CFCs. The technology has come too late in the day to prevent European and US car manufacturers opting for HFC-134a, the replacement now offered by former CFC producers. But as regulators focus on the global warming potential of HFC-134a, some manufacturers see carbon dioxide as a possible long-term option.
