A troubled birth for Environment Agencies Bill

Part of a Bill to establish a new Environment Agency and a counterpart in Scotland was published in October. Many early reactions have been unfavourable, with critics claiming that the legislation may weaken environmental protection. The Bill is likely to be enlarged considerably in the coming weeks with additional sections on contaminated land and liability, packaging waste and countryside issues.
