Transport debate rolls on as Mawhinney promises Green Paper

Transport Secretary Brian Mawhinney has challenged players in his "great transport debate" to seek common ground in balancing the demands of the environment, the economy and personal mobility, with the results feeding into a Green Paper due later this year. But a meeting of transport experts in Oxford in June threw the ball back into the Government's court - with widespread calls for a strategic framework for transport policy and an assessment of the impact of rail privatisation on freight transport.
